Great article, but I want to take this a step further... I think you may be the one to help:

I want to maintain a master folder with all of my high-bit-rate audio files, some of which are WMA and other incompatible with iTunes formats. I want to let iTunes convert these files, but I don't want duplicate [low- and high-bit-rate files] in the same master folder. This means maintaining an iTunes music folder with copies of everything, including the original and the converted files. Then I need to go into the iTunes music folder and delete the high-bit-rate versions. Whew!!!

To make this more tedious... when I download music from Amazon.com or elsewhere, i have to copy it to the iTunes and to the Master folders. Additionally, I want to maintain the folder organization structure, so it is simpler to compare the two. Sounds like this should be simple, but I have been doing all this for several years, and cannot seem to maintain synchronicity [thanks, Gordon Sumner] between the folders.

What do you think? Asking the impossible?

Thanks.

I second that... This is great for my iphone 3g synching issues due to the fact that I use a NAS to serve up all my music files. Now it can update accurately from that system. Woot!
