see, over here we don't have gas...only for the water heater, so its consistently low. Instead we get raped by the electric company. I really don't know what is a cheap or expensive gas bill. I just thought the jump was interesting. :)

deadbeat.

Yeah, those whole-house fans are all the rage right now around here too. I've heard self-installation can be tricky - better tell him to have extra beer on hand to make sure his mind is sharp for the task.

As for our winter gas, I think the major contributor is our gas fireplace (read: fake fireplace). We used that over the heat most of the time. I think the gas heating gives us a cost edge over electric, but I guess I've never actually tested that over a month.

Stupid gas.

Actually, I'm quite impressed at the price of your gas during the winter months. I just pulled our statements for the past six months and during the month of June our bill was $51.84, but in February it was a whopping $268.81. You'd think that our June bill was a bargain, but really we just switch the payment from paying a large amount for gas in the winter to paying a large electric bill in the summer. Fall is about the only time we can get a break. Spring has too much pollen to open the windows.
Jim just heard that you can actually self-install an attic fan. That might be one of his upcoming projects. I'm a little nervous about him cutting such a big hole in the ceiling under the attic, but it might be pretty cool once he's done.
